Frog Pond – Cameron Meadows
Gorgeous day to be hiking. Mostly sunny with the temperature rising from 69oF at the TH to 80oF at the end of the hike.
We dropped a car at the Cameron Meadows TH on the way in and stopped just short of the Frog Pond Gulch ford because it is still washed out. After crossing the ford on foot we headed up the Frog Pond trail which is still as steep as ever. We were missing our usual cooling rain/snow mix as we sweated our way uphill.
All of Henderson’s wildflowers were on display today along with Bear Grass as far as you could see in all directions from just below Frog Pond and on up through the meadow.
We found that trail following is considerably easier without the one to two feet of snow we have experienced here in the past. We only lost the trail once when we were looking for the upper end of the Cameron Meadows trail when we zigged when we should have zagged as we came down from the meadow. Fortunately, we ended up doing a short bushwhack through familiar terrain. The trails are in reasonable shape except for a large area of deadfall about 1/2 mile above the lower Cameron Meadows TH.
We were all sad that Hank couldn’t be with us today since we know how dear this hike is to him.
We refreshed ourselves at Boomtown.
