Frog Pond – Cameron Meadows
Fourteen of us headed out to the Applegate Valley and into California to undertake the notorious Frog Pond / Cameron Meadow hike. Well, it turned out to be much ado about nothing. This is a hike were we have encountered feet of snow so the trail was impossible to find, or bushwhacked for a mile to find the trail somewhere else. The stories go on and on. However, on this excursion we stayed on the trail the whole way, parts of which I have never seen until today and the hike was uneventful.
This loop hike is a steep, both uphill and downhill, and we did encounter some challenges, like some very large trees blocking the trail. On the good side, there were many flowers and mushrooms along the way and the weather was near perfect. We heard the frogs at Frog Pond and lunch was taken by the big tree in Cameron Meadows.
However, the big event of the hike was going to Steve and Maria’s home for a special beer tasting, along with hors d’oeuvres and two kinds of baked “fries” (regular potato and sweet potato). Four kinds of beer were being tasted, freshly imported from Single Hill Brewing Company in Yakima, WA, which will be opening this weekend, owned by their daughter and son-in-law. Beer, food, company and conversation were excellent. A big Thank You to Steve and Maria for being so gracious to the group.
