PCT from Old 99 to Pilot Rock
Around 8:30am with a temperature around 75 degrees, 9 hikers started out on the PCT off old Highway 99. We had been concerned about the smoke from the fires in northern California but the winds were in our favor and we had beautiful blue skies.
There were still some nice looking wildflowers along the way. We took a snack break right before the trail leaves the PCT and heads towards Pilot Rock. We made our way up to the base of Pilot Rock. Steve Weyer quickly climbed to the top. Sabin and Sherry made it part way up but decided not to push it and returned below.
We made our way back down and as we were taking a group picture, a couple drove up and took it for us. We then returned to our cars and headed back to Ashland with temperatures around 88 at the trailhead and over 100 in town. One carload went to Caldera and the other went home.
