North on Layton Mine Ditch
A perfect day for hiking the mineditch. We marched 1 1/2 miles along to the detour around private property and ran into an obstacle. The pot operation was back in use and they had not only blocked entry, they had blocked access to the detour, displaying less than friendly signs. We managed to bushwhack down the slope for a very short distance and rejoin the detour.
All went well after that except that poison oak had grown along the trail and we had to step over it. Finally we arrived at the Chinese Wall and our lunch spot. Long pants might be in order for the hike.
The day was perfectly clear and Dan was able to use his app to identify mountains. We tried to pick out the trail to the summit of Greyback Mountain but weren’t sure of the trail’s location. The trail gives a very full view of the mountain, which still had some snow on it.
We returned to the TH without incident and later stopped at Boomtown. A fun day as several of the hikers had never done the trail.
