Toothpick Trail and More

Threatening weather made for last minute changes in Monday’s hike plans. With grey skies overhead we decided to stay close to home and hike in the Ashland Watershed. The Toothpick Trail about 4 miles up Tolman Creek Road became our hike destination.

The aerobic hike up the trail to Lamb Saddle with some sun breaking through the clouds and the rain holding off was a great way to start the day. Our small group of Bob & Tracy, and newbie, Lisa were eager to explore. So first we went over to check out Lamb Mine which has been covered with a steel grate to bar entry. Lisa used the light on her phone to peek inside the mine.

Then back to the saddle and down the 0.8 mile trail to Reeder Reservoir (which was down to about 20% capacity). It’s a nice trail through the forest , but has about 2 dozen deadfalls to navigate.

By the time we got back to the cars, we had done 6 miles or 15,500 steps with about 800′ gain…and it was only noon!
