Minnow Creek
We started out on a beautiful day at Taylor Creek and decided to try the side trail, the Minnow Creek Trail, which we had always gone by without stopping. The trail went up and up through old growth forest. There was a lot of fire damage from two years ago but not nearly as much as we expected. Finally we arrived near the ridge, where we had to climb a steep hill to the top.
Dan and Mike decided to bash on. Was there ever a summit that Mike didn’t want to bash on to? Gladys and I decided to chill out in the sun. Radio contact was established and there was a complete absence of oohs and aahs.
Gladys had found some good music and was disappointed that I had never learned how to tango. Dan and Mike arrived back, much more talkative on the way down than on the way up. When asked how the view at the top was, Dan replied “One and done.” So at least we trod where no AHG hiker has trod before.
The forest on the way up was quite nice and our legs had a good workout. We turned around at about the 3 mile mark. The Minnow Creek Trail continues on, basically following the ridge line for another 3 miles to a TH on FS 602.
The highlight of the day was beer and fries at Baldini’s in Merlin, newly open.
