Red Queen to Lewis Loop
Ten of us headed up into the Ashland Watershed to be outside and enjoy the company of each other. We all wore masks during the carpool phase, which was new due to the impact of Omicron stories. Once on the trail since we were outside, we all felt comfortable without masks.
This hike has a steady uphill climb to the top. Our hike today was only 7 miles long because we had lunch on the Caterpillar Trail and never made it up the last pitch to the picnic table. The weather was perfect (50+ degrees mostly) and very few people out on the trails.
I must admit that the views from this hike have been overgrown with trees, etc. and were very disappointing. We did find Mt. McLoughlin and Mt. Ashland through the trees, along with a narrow view of the Rogue Valley.
On the other hand we all had a great time being outside, hiking and getting caught up on everyone else’s lives. I had so much fun being outside that I forgot to take many pictures of the hike. Maybe next time. 😊
