Gumboot Saddle to Boulder Peak
Seven of us headed south to Gumboot Saddle for a hike up to Boulder Peak. This is easily in my top 5 hikes within the Wednesday Hike Portfolio. The views start within a quarter mile of the start and don’t stop until you’re almost back to the cars. Shasta is up close a personal. The Crags arrive along with Mt. Lassen in the distance, plus many lakes are visible from the ridges. Yes, it is also one of the tougher hikes, with some serious uphill bushwhacking over big boulders, along with many manzanita bushes in the way, but the effort is worth the views.
The air was clear and everyone made it to the top. We had someone who just celebrated their 80th birthday join us at the top. Even though we did not make it back home until after 6:00 PM, we all agreed this is one of our best hikes.
Thanks to all who kept me company,
