Big Red Mountain – Ashland Hiking Group

We had decent smoke conditions for the hike and got off to a good start before it warmed up. We ran into lots of PCT hikers heading for Ashland for a weekend break. There was lively discussion about how some of the women hikers looked like they had just stepped out of a beauty salon. One male hiker reacted to praise of his fine black beard by releasing his pony tail to reveal matching shoulder length hair. The female AHG contingent opined that he was handsome indeed so for a moment I feared for his safety.

We went through the huge fields of bear grass 6 weeks too late but they were still impressive. The views were spectacular at lunch and it was worth the bushwhack up to the summit where a cool breeze came up.
Altogether a fine day of hiking and we retired afterwards to the Pumphouse for beer and fries. The fries are excellent
