Upper Rogue Sampler
Our group of nine happy Friday hikers enjoyed an UPPER ROGUE SAMPLER. We started at Natural Bridge trailhead and hiked upriver to “The Bridge to Nowhere,” crossed it and headed up hill and down to enjoy glimpses of the river from above as we returned on the other side of the river to Natural Bridge for lunch.
Then we picked up the trail down river to Nob Falls. There, Kathy shared a spring poem “Such Singing in the Wild Branches” by Mary Oliver, mistress of the natural world speaking through her poetry. Wildflowers continue to delight, some dogwoods persisting along with the yellow leaf iris, white anemone (with 5 petals), vanilla leaf/deer’s foot with 3 large leaves, and so many others. Sections with heavy moss on the lava rocks made us feel welcomed to “hobbit land.” Distance – 5.5 miles.
