East Boulder Lake
Ten of us headed to Northern California in perfect hiking weather. It was 37 degrees when we started and we finished in the low 50’s.
This is a great hike with spectacular views from Mt. Shasta (now snow covered down to the trees) to the coastal range. There were patches of frost on the ground as we headed up to East Boulder Lake. As we approached East Boulder Lake, we met 3 other known hikers who were doing the same hike and it was good to see them out on the trail. All 13 of us headed up the left side of the canyon, enjoying the views all the way.
We did this “lollipop” shaped hike clockwise, hoping to make the uphill portion easier. Thus, up to the ridge, then down the southern side of the ridge to the PCT, right to the next valley and down, past several lakes along the way. Finally, we took a right again and headed back to East Boulder Lake.
The weather was perfect, the ground was wet enough to have no dust, but dry enough to be easily walkable and the views were wonderful.
Refreshments were taken by all at Jefferson’s Roadhouse.
