Grizzly Peak
We left the fog of Ashland expecting foul weather but arrived at the TH to find warmer weather than in town. We did the counterclockwise loop and ran into some deadfall and some mud. We found two large trees that had been cut in half by winds. Both looked topheavy and we speculated they had dried out and had become brittle.
We emerged from the forest and went along the slope just as we were hit by a cold wind and ran into a muddy trail along the slope. Finally we climbed up to the lookout and took a picture of the group, with the fog far below as the backdrop. Soon after we found a sheltered spot in the new fir trees with suitable logs to sit on and eat lunch.
After lunch we had an uneventful stroll down to the TH, except for having to navigate some slippery pieces of the trail. It was a fun day and the weather cooperated.
Most of us enjoyed wine and cheese afterwards at Kerr Manor, an event that extended several hours as we enjoyed some lively conversation.
