Castle Craigs to Castle Dome
Nine of us headed south to find some sunshine and good views. We hiked up to the Castle Crag Dome, which is a tough hike (over 2,000 vertical feet in under 3 miles) but with amazing views of the Castle Crag rocks and surrounding areas. Shasta was covered in snow and clouds much of the time, but it came out during lunch and the hike down. There was some snow along the trail, but none of it slowed us down.
Lunch was a peaceful event, with some hiking farther up into the rocks, enjoying the views from on high. The rest of us enjoyed the sunshine and relaxed for a nice break.
Then back down the trail to the cars and off to the Jefferson Roadhouse Grill for refreshments. Everyone enjoyed the hike, along with the views, so it turned out to be an excellent day. We were especially grateful for the sunshine as we came down the pass into the Rogue Valley – fully engulfed in clouds and rain. Thanks to all who came along.
