Lost Creek Lake – Marina to Dam
With a promise of partial sun, Jerry, Bob H and I set out to explore the Lost Creek Lake South Shore Trail from the marina parking area down to the dam. It was chilly for our 10 AM start but gradually warmed up as the sun burnt off the clouds.
The moss covered path was paved in asphalt while we were still in Joseph Stewart Park, but soon gave way too softer open ground. There were maybe half a dozen deadfall trees on the trail that we had to navigate. The cold forest also gave way to some sunny spots along the shore.
Some signs of new growth were early blooming Snow Queens, a large plate sized mushroom, and Pussy Willows with white buds in the sun by the water.
The path from the marina to the dam is three miles with a gain of 130′. But when we got to the south side of the dam we found the gate was open to allow public crossing. It’s another mile each way across the dam.
We had lunch in a sunny spot down the rocky bank near the north end of the dam and watched people fishing and boats speeding across the lake.
The afternoon sun warmed us on our way back.
This eight mile out and back hike will be offered to the Monday hikers when we resume scheduled AHG hikes.
