Crater Lake – West Rim – Ashland Hiking Group

Although there was rain in the forecast we didn’t have a single drop on the hike today. Instead, we had snow, sleet and wind with the temperature hovering around freezing all day.

The visibility was quite poor and we had only very brief glimpses of the lake. We decided to forgo the side trip up Watchman because of the wind and fog.

After passing the trail to Watchman we had a view of Wizard Island and could see how low the lake is currently. There were islands on the west side of Wizard that we had never see before and the west lake shore now has quite a wide beach.

We had lunch in the snack bar and additional refreshments at the Rogue River Lodge.
