Applegate Lake
The three Ashland hikers met the six hikers waiting at the Jacksonville Library and we headed down to Applegate Lake. We decided to do the hike north to south today, so we did the 30 minute shuttle setup at the start of the hike.
The weather was partly sunny with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Our only weather excitement was about two minutes of BB size hail after our lunch on Hal’s point.
Since the Country Club closed last year we have been somewhat adrift in choosing apres hike refreshment venues for our hikes below Jacksonville. But that has now changed. We stopped at the Boomtown Saloon in Jacksonville and were quite pleased with the menu (extensive fried selections including pickles), their beer selection and the friendly service. Plus, they offer all you care to eat unshelled peanuts, which really helps to tide you over until the refreshments arrive.
