Charlie Buck to Baldy Peak
Ten of us headed to the Applegate area to hike up the Charlie Buck trail to the top of Baldy Peak. It was a perfect day for being outdoors and hiking. We could not drive all the way to the trailhead because a tree had fallen across the road about a 1/2 mile before, so we parked our cars and headed up the road to the trailhead.
This is one steep hike. It has short flat places, but then it gets even steeper. The flowers were out in full color, so we did have some distractions along the way. This was a hike where we stopped many times to enjoy the view, and yes, to catch our breath. The poison oak was also in full gear and much of the new growth was very near or on the trail.
Everyone made it to the top of Baldy Peak, so we took our time and enjoyed the moment. Then it was off to Boomtown to enjoy refreshments and celebrate Hank’s momentous 80th. birthday. Well organized by Liz with help from Francie, along with Denise who made 3 lemon meringue pies, we surprised Hank. Everyone had a good time and we departed for Ashland with full tummies.
