Deadfall Lakes – Mt. Eddy
We hit the trail from the Upper TH at 10 AM, in perfect hiking weather. We had had a few narrow escapes on the way up, from running head on into a couple of logging trucks and a mad man in a pick up with a huge trailer. The logging trucks had good drivers and we were able to squeeze past them. There were quite a few cars at the trail head parking lot, which has been enlarged and a new toilet facility added.
On the PCT portion we met a lot of through hikers and talked with one. He said some of the water crossings in the Sierras were very hard and some hikers had had to swim one or two. As usual the PCT hikers were in a good mood and very friendly.
Nine of us started out and two were short on time and returned after lunch at the Upper Lake. The views from the ridge were fabulous, with clear skies, and the views of Shasta on the way back in the cars were even better. You could see the Red Buttes from end to end. They are easier to pick out because of the fires last year.
We stopped at the Jefferson Roadhouse in Yrika for beer and fries. Note: It opens at 4 PM now. We arrived home happy with our day.
