Kerby Peak
Kerby Peak is one of the harder hikes in our portfolio, climbing up over 2,700 vertical feet in just over 3 miles (6+ miles round trip). Sixteen amazing people showed up and off we went. It was in the mid 60’s as we started and climbed to the mid 70’s by the time we were done.
This hike starts up with no warm up to get the heart and lungs working. But, given the strong group of hikers, we all made it to the top by noon. Lunch was leisurely, more like a Maria type lunch, then down we headed to the cars. There were adequate flowers to keep people entertained, with a few that needed further research. It was my first crop of Bear Grass blooming at about half way to the top. The 360 degree view from on top was spectacular, but the only “for sure” mountain top we saw was Mt. McLoughlin. The Illinois Valley on its way to Cave Junction and beyond was clearly visible.
Refreshments were taken at the Taprock Grille, where they had free refills on French fries. What a treat. All had a good time, but felt the impact in our bodies from hiking to the top. It was a great day for a hike.
