Kelsey Creek to Maple Falls
We started hiking in 60 degree weather and generally clear skies. This hike follows Kelsey Creek for close to 5 miles up to Maple Falls. The hike is consistently uphill, so our lunch was a long one, with several taking their boots off to relax. Two members hiked down to the bottom of the falls for better pictures, but the rest of us soaked up the cold water on our toes and sunshine in our faces.
Although there was no odor of a fire, there were plenty of black (not all dead) trees. Given the lower elevation, we also encountered some poison oak, which is very colorful this time of the year. Refreshments were taken at the Jefferson Roadhouse, which is still open and provided excellent service.
