Layton Mine Ditch South
Fearing bad weather, several of us brought our magic ponchos to ward off the rain. It worked and by lunchtime we were in bright sunshine,
This was a new hike in that we hiked south instead of north, with no idea of what might lie ahead. We started in old growth forest with a steep slope along the ditch. The trail was excellent. Later the trail went up and down with a few short sections that were steep. Finally we came out on a section that was more of a road than a ditch. The sun came out and we stopped for lunch.
On the way back we took the road for a short distance to avoid some steep descents with some mud. We did 7.3 miles return and our average speed was close to 2.5 MPH. There was no attempt to go fast but much of the trail was user friendly.
The local trail association had done a fantastic job and we all enjoyed the hike. .
Most of us had wine and cheese at Kerr Manor, organized by Diane K, and Carol brought a very special cheese. We wished each other Merry Christmas, with some appropriate hugs.
