Jack-Ash Trail – Anderson Ridge
We left town in a heavy fog and I had promised we would get above it all at 5,000 feet. We drove up and up Anderson Butte and sure enough, at the summit we were in bright sunlight. It was just as well because I could see the potholes in the forest road that have gotten deeper and deeper. After bouncing from one to the next we arrived safe and sound at the TH.
The temperature became warmer and warmer as we shed clothes on the way up, finally with some of us hiking in shirtsleeves, At the summit I was putting on sunscreen.
The views were spectacular, with fog in the valleys and the mountains clear. I noted that there was no snow on either Big Red Mountain or Dutchmen’s Peak, so I decided to switch the hike on Friday and do Big Red.
We enjoyed the views on the ridge up and back. The pace picked up when I mentioned we would stop at Cartwrights on the way back. We ordered a variety of beers from the 53 taps and most of us bought food of some kind to take home. Note that the deli counter was open but the restaurant is now closed Mondays and Tuesdays. A fun day.
