Toothpick to Gimble, Gyre and Lewis Lookout
Ten hikers enjoyed a chilly, cloudy day hiking in the Ashland Watershed, specifically the Toothpick trail from the TH on Tolman Creek Road to Lamb Saddle to Caterpillar trail to Gyre trail to Lewis Point and back the same route.
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the Lewis Point. A highlight of this hiking day was hearing stories about overseas travel recently completed: Sandra in France and beyond, Joan in Egypt, and Val Z in her second home of Italy.
We hiked 5.3 miles and approximately 400’ elevation gain. The views to Mt. McLoughlin and Mt. Ashland were obscured by clouds, but the sky cleared enough for the panorama view over the City of Ashland below. We met a few hikers on the way in early morning. Returning later, as usual we were passed by numerous mountain bikers heading up to the Lizard run. We’re so fortunate to have fabulous trails so nearby.
