Pederson Loop
Ten of us headed up to go snowshoeing for the first time this season. I was first nervous that if we got as much snow as forecasted the roads might be closed and we wouldn’t get there. Then, after the Sunday/Monday storms fizzled out, I was worried we would not have enough snow. However, as it turned out we had good roads and lots of fresh snow to hike out to the shelter on the PCT and back on a separate trail/road to the cars. Every once in a while the wind would rock the trees and we would be engulfed in a mini snow storm, but generally the weather was fine. We even had a few glimpses of blue sky.
Lunch was taken in the shelter, which was cozy and protected from the cold wind. At times the new snow was easily 2 feet deep, with some hike leaders sinking up to their knees, so the progress could be slow and took a lot of energy. Everyone took turns leading, so we spread out the work load and all seemed to have a good time. Refreshments were taken at Caldera, where we were well received.
