Snowshoe Hyatt Lake – Howard Prairie
Thirteen of us drove up to Hyatt Reservoir to snowshoe up Wild Cat Knob. It was 32 degrees when we started the hike from our lake house. We walked just over ½ mile to the beginning of the snowshoe trail. From there we hiked to the top of the road and turned left, hiking through the forest (no trail) to the cliffs that overlooked Howard Prairie Reservoir. On a clear day, we could have also seen Mt. McLoughlin, but it was overcast and somewhat foggy, so not the greatest views today.
Then we headed back to the road and hiked up to a lunch spot just below Wild Cat Knob. The snow was very heavy and breaking trail the entire way was challenging, so many people took turns breaking trail (much appreciated by all). We decided to stop just short of the top for lunch, given that there were limited views due to the clouds. Several of us worked on our snowshoes during the break and we managed to complete repairs to make it safely back to our house.
Refreshments and nourishment were taken at the lake house and all seemed to enjoy the hike.
