Lower Rogue to Rainie Falls
Four of us, all with a bad case of cabin fever, took off to hike part of the Lower Rogue today. By the time we got to the trail head the air was OK (probably in the 60 AQI range). We decided to only hike to Rainie Falls and took the western side, even though it was in the sun.
The trail is in good condition but very dry. We arrived at the falls expecting to sit down and watch the rafts/boats heading to the ocean on the river. However, when we explored the area, there was not a good place to see the falls.
At this point, one of our members got separated from the other three, so we worked hard to reconnect, which we did eventually. By now it was getting hot so we stopped for lunch on the shady side of the river. We easily saw 25 rafts/boats heading down river.
Given the heat, etc., we decided to head back to Merlin for ice cream, which was taken at a nice Veterans Park along the road in Merlin. It was great to get out, see blue sky and be hiking again. It was a good day.
