Lower Table Rock

Kay led our group of eleven up the steep winding trail to the top of Lower Table Rock and across the mesa to the opposite side overlooking the bright green fields and meandering Rogue River. A chilly, overcast day, but lovely views and the delightful and artistic shapes created by the madrones.

Wildflowers are just starting to sprout. We found Western Buttercup and Desert Parsley (Lomatium utriculatum). Lots of conversations enjoyed while eating lunch at our favorite spot, exposed to the elements as the hail descended in earnest, just as the forecasted for noontime.

We ‘hightailed’ it back across the mesa and gained some shelter hiking under the trees back down the trail. By then, the sky had about exhausted its hail supplies, at least until later afternoon snow flurries. Our hike amounted to just short of 5 miles and 869’ elevation.
