Forest Park – Jacksonville
Four of us enjoyed sun, sights and camaraderie on a loop trail in Forest Park, encompassing parts of Norling, Pondersosa Snag, Siskiyou, Rattlesnake, Siskiyou Loop, and Rail trails.
After two hours of graded uphill we enjoyed a view from on high. A bit of off-trail scramble brought us to a knoll with a nice view of McLaughlin. Various viewpoints, with accompanying benches, provided enjoyable break spots along the way.
Post lunch was almost all downhill, with several intersections that necessitated digital map checking. An added bonus was the initial traverse of the original Jacksonville Dam, and a final sighting of a train derailment with rail trestle remnants. All in all a fine day to get some exercise and Vitamin D.
