Emigrant Lake Quarry
Ten Friday Moderate hikers ventured into the valley fog along the trail around the Hill Creek arm of Emigrant Lake, starting from the parking area at the end of the Old Green Springs Highway where it meets Emigrant Lake.
We followed the horseshoe trail to the spur trails on the knoll up to the hill above the Quarry. After walking around the archery area, we walked down to stroll along the old Siskiyou highway that once connected Oregon and California, exposed due to paucity of water in the Lake.
We returned on the same trail back to our cars. The trail was awash in teasel, wild roses and oak trees, a habitat that made for a lovely winter hike. Looking forward to Liz’s wreath making event on Sunday, Gabriele collected ends of wild rose bushes, full of red buds, teasel, and other unique winter plants to her wreath. Others followed her example, collecting specimens for their holiday decorations. Our hike amounted to about 4 miles round trip.
