Enchanted Forest
It was the day before Halloween and nine of us headed up the Enchanted Forest trail in the Applegate Valley. We paused to look at the old pickup.
Suddenly, we were surprised by the appearance of a new mysterious hiker, Elder Zinger (EZ). Zinger directed us up the hill deeper into the woods where the large golden-leafed maples grow. Steadily climbing we found that most of the maple leaves were still green. It may be days longer before the maple colors turn.
At the top of the saddle the group enjoyed lunch, while socially distancing on logs and the ground. Zinger brought more Halloween fun by sharing chocolate Halloween treats. Returning down the hill, some of the group stopped at Wooldridge Winery. Mileage 4 miles rt and a 1,000’ elevation gain. The trail head is about 1 mile past the Wooldridge Winery in the Applegate Valley.
