Grizzly Peak and Lost Creek Falls
Six of us headed out early for our morning hike. Our first destination was Grizzly Peak, still covered with late season flowers. The 8 am start and cloud cover made for mild temps around the five mile loop. We had good views down into Ashland but Shasta and McLoughlin were hidden by the smoke from multiple fires, which we could smell in the air.
We met Jean O Donnell, who was enjoying an early morning outing. On our way down we passed several families exploring the mountain.
Four of us followed the Shale City road around to the turnoff for Lost Creek Falls. The two mile out and back along the creek included two creek crossings and a tangled maze of deadfalls. Still we made it to a shaded lunch spot above the three tiered falls and enjoyed the relaxing sound of the falls diving into the pool below.
Another good day hiking.
