Castle Crags – Dogs Creek to Sabin’s Point
Nine of us headed down to hike in the Castle Crags Wilderness located in the Shasta – Trinity National Forest. The weather was cool to begin with, but after climbing over 400 feet in the first half of a mile on the Dog Trail, many were ready for a wardrobe change.
We continued on along the PCT under blue skies and sunny weather. There were multiple stream crossings with very little water flowing and some areas had no water at all. As we made our way along the PCT we had views of The Grey Rocks and stunning views of the back side of the Castle Crags.
We stopped at Sabin’s Point for our lunch and enjoyed the views and the warm weather in the low 60s. After lunch we headed back down hoping to have refreshments at YAKs on the 5 in Dunsmuir but were disappointed to find out that they are closed on Wednesdays. We then went to our Yreka standby and had beer and fries at the Jefferson Roadhouse.
