Ostrich Peak
Thirteen of us headed to Hitt Road to discover many construction trucks in our normal parking places from a home being built nearby. With some help from an early arriver (Maria), we were able to park very close to the trail head and were on our way.
It is a very steep trail at the beginning, but after 10 minutes, we were warm and warmed up. The trail was in good shape as we wound our way up to the top. On the way we passed several burn sites that were still smoldering and were warned that there would be more burning on that side of the hill. We were glad the route down was on the other side.
Lunch was a delightful event, all sitting around an open meadow area. There was a view of Mt. McLoughlin and Mt. Bailey from a nearby spot. Several happy hikers took their shoes off. See if you can identify the owners of the socks in the picture below.
After a Maria style lunch, we headed back down to the cars. However, when we got to a fork in the trail, we decided to turn right instead of the usual route left. We ended up taking the Fall-on-Knee trail, which was new to some of us. Refreshments were taken at Caldera. It was a perfect day to be out and hiking in the Ashland Watershed.
