Fell on Knee Trail – Ashland Hiking Group

This was a great day to be outside! As Elisabeth emailed me later that day, “We were blessed to be hiking in the cusp between rain storms.” As the photos by Randy show the quality of the light was amazing.

We started on the short Birdsong Trail past our favorite very old and weathered Manzanita Tree. We continued right on the Hitt Road Trail to the second sign for the Fell On Knee Trail. Rosalie led this hike in her very popular Hike-It OLLI class. In that class we learned from one of the guys who worked on the trail that the name comes from the word ‘felony’ as the trail might have gone through some private lands (I don’t really know).

The seven of us did experience some smoke from the control burn near the reservoir before we turned down Fell On Knee. We stopped for lunch at the rock formations at the junction of the Wonder and Fell On Knee Trails. Mt. Ashland was somewhat cloudy but still beautiful. Linda took the worm eating leaf photo there. She was excited to see a man made version of the worm trail coming back on Hitt Road. The hike was about 6.8 miles (depending on whose GPS we trust (or like). Elevation gain was about 1200 feet.
