Mt Eddy
Fourteen of us headed south to conquer the mighty Mt. Eddy. The weather was perfect, although in the sun it was a bit hot and sunscreen was definitely in order. We started on the upper trail and met several PCT hikers heading north from Mexico, include two through hikers from Croatia. There were many flowers along the way, especially in the open meadows. We saw several patches of Darlingtonia Californica, also called the California pitcher plant, on our way to the trailhead and along the hiking trail.
At the PCT/Mt. Eddy trail junction we turned left and headed up to the top. We passed a guy on a mountain bike, who indicated there were many young ladies behind him. Of course we thought he was nuts. When we reached the top there was a kaleidoscope or swarm of butterflies on top.
As we started lunch, a swarm of young ladies (I counted 8) on mountain bikes arrived and were intent on celebrating one of their birthdays. On the way out, I helped video their individual initial tasting of champagne as part of that celebration. Oh to be young again.
After lunch, we headed down to the shuttle cars, which were at the end of the lower trail and some of us got to ride in the back of a pickup truck back to the upper trailhead. There were several water crossings and a few muddy bogs, but everyone did fine and we all headed home after that.
Several of us headed to Caldera for a quick beer and then home for dinner. Everyone seemed to have a good time and I appreciated the company.
