Applegate Lake
It was a beautiful day for a hike along Applegate Lake. We divided the group of nine into two teams and started from opposite ends of the Lake on the Payette Trail. From the far end of the Lake there were 7 or 8 places with deadfall or trail damage but nothing to slow you down. The two teams met at Hal’s Point for an Annie Lunch (a slow one) in the sunshine on a nice warm day. We exchanged car keys and finished the hike. It should be noted that the hike leaders brought exceptional chocolate for the occasion.
Both teams made fast times on the final stages and finished around the same time. Car number 2 headed for Boomtown for a well-earned libation while your loyal servant sped back to Ashland to witness an exceptional thespian performance at his grandsons’ pre-school. Being on time had the disadvantage of missing out on an Ashland Amber and fries and the advantage of avoiding banishment to the north shore of Newfoundland, a place only loved by seals.
All in all a good day for a 9-10 mile hike with some exceptional views thrown in.
