Sky Lakes Loop
The day started out with perfect weather. The drive up to the trail head was mostly paved and we started hiking in low 60’s weather. The first mile had extensive downfall (trees across the trail) and the mosquitos were out in full force (thank goodness for Deet). We met two fisherman coming down the trail and they said the trail above was much better, so with our spirits lifted, we kept going.
The hike to our outstanding lunch spot (thanks to Dan’s advice) was excellent. With our spirits and energy levels back up to full, we headed down the last half of the loop trail, only to hit heavy downfall for the last 4 miles. After hiking for almost 6 hours in total, we headed home without stopping for refreshments. This was a character building trip, to say the least.
