Seven Lakes from seven mile TH
It was a beautiful day for a hike with full sun and temperatures rising from the 40s into the 60s. The drive to the trailhead was about 1:45 and the trailhead has been upgraded with separate parking areas for equestrians and hikers.
The trail is in good shape with only minor deadfall. We passed a Forest Service crew of 3 that was hand sawing to clear some of the larger deadfall. The trail runs through hemlocks and firs with huckleberry plants everywhere, although we were too late for berry picking.
We did about 5 miles into Grass Lake and Middle Lake which are both quite lovely. Although the trail in is quite pretty it is also somewhat monotonous and our overall grade on the hike was a so-so – OK to do once in a while but not in our top 10 all time favorites.
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the sun at Middle Lake and were a bit slow to get started again after lunch. The Lake of the Woods restaurant is still open so we headed there after the hike for refreshments on the deck.
